January 2013 – New Street Station - New start
Birmingham’s New Street Train station is currently being transformed to create a stunning 21st century transport hub, with the first phase completing in April 2013.The project will bring major economic benefits, helping economic growth by creating new jobs and stimulating regeneration.
As part of this project The Birmingham Sports Volunteer Programme have being approached to recruit volunteers to help with the first part of the switch over from old station to new.
Recently two members of the Volunteer Team took part in a tour around the construction site of the new station.

16th February – Athletics Indoor Grand Prix, National Indoor Arena

30th June – Athletics Diamond league, Alexander Stadium
5th and 6th July –English School Track and Field Championships
13th and 14th July – Athletics AVIVA Trials, Alexander Stadium
4th August – Birmingham Carnival
24th and 25th August – British BMX Championships,Birmingham BMX Track
20th October – BUPA GreatBirminghamRun, City

2012 – What a Fantastic Year of Sport!
2012 was a fantastic year for sport in theUK. The prestigious Olympic Games may have been held inLondon, however,Birminghamdid not miss out on any of the Olympic action.
We welcomed the Torch Relay in June as it made it’s way through the streets ofBirminghamcheered on by approximately 150,000 people.
In July we hosted the Pre-Olympic Training Camps for theUSAand Jamaican Track and Field Teams. Jamaica’s Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake publicly thankedBirminghamfor the support the city provided them after winning the 4x100m relay. Airies Merritt and Sanya Richards Ross became the new 400m Olympic Champion and the 110m hurdles Olympic Champion after a successful visit toBirmingham.
Across July and August the 2012 Live Site provided an opportunity for thousands of people to watch Olympic and Paralympic events in the centre of the city enjoying a unique and vibrant atmosphere.
